Measles Outbreak Update
Greetings to our school community, please read the information below.
There have been multiple incidences of measles outbreaks across the country. Locally, Pennsylvania’s first case of 2025 was announced by the Department of Health on Friday February 28th involving an unvaccinated child in Montgomery County.
Measles Facts: Measles is caused by a virus and is highly contagious. Measles spread through respiratory droplets via coughing and sneezing. Symptoms include a high fever, runny nose, red eyes and the characteristic rash. Measles is a serious disease that can lead to pneumonia, encephalitis and even death.
Prevention: The MMR vaccine is safe and effective in providing immunity against measles mumps and rubella. Health officials strongly recommend vaccination to protect your child, your family and your community . Pennsylvania State Law requires all students grades K-12 to be vaccinated while attending school or have an exemption. Please consult your health provider for more information on vaccination.
