Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church and School was founded in 1941 by Cardinal Dennis Dougherty as a mission and outreach to the Chinese community.  Holy Redeemer is unique in US Catholic history as the first Catholic Church built for Chinese people.  Also, unlike most Catholic Churches it was not built for Catholics, but as an outreach to a mostly non-Catholic Asian American community.
